Some of you might be familiar with the original movie released many moons ago. It seems there has been a remake of sorts done by the makers of Ghost in the Shell. The movie is completely done in CGI with lots of cellshader use and the movie seems to be truer to the plot from the manga than the old movie. I haven't been able to find a fan-subbed version of it available yet but I'm still looking. You can see the trailer over here. The DVD is going to be released in north america in early May. _________________ No trees were harmed in the making of this post. However, billions of electrons were inconvenienced. |

wow that looks really really awesome! I will thoroughly steal that :p
Offtopic - I'm looking forward to the day when cg movies will have games based on them where they use the actual cg meshes and textures, aka actually playing a game inside the movie. This would make a prime example. Of course it would need to be scaled back some, but I still stand by the concept. _________________ "So a bunch of dolts in a forum are whining. | I'll probably buy this on dvd when it comes out, that is of course provided they don't fuck up the subtitles like what was done to the NorthAmerican release of Ghost in the Shell 2. |

Completely forgot to write my thoughts about the DVD when I got it a month ago. The 3d renderings are downright gorgeous however the cel-shaded characters seem slightly out of place within a realisitc environment but maybe it falls in line with the unique look they were looking for. It definitely stands out from traditional anime visual-wise and after awhile you get used to it. The only blemish I see is the character's mouths don't seem to be in synch with their voices, the english dub is actually closer in synch but still lackluster as dubbing in other languages usually is.
The mostly techno music also has it's moments with the best track accenting a back alley fight.
Plot-wise there were many alterations from the manga but that's also the norm trying to squeeze everything into a movie less than 2 hours long. Many of the major events still happen and as a standalone the movie is pretty good.
Well worth the $30 I spent (limited edition no less!) which is somewhat cheaper than most other anime available. _________________ No trees were harmed in the making of this post. However, billions of electrons were inconvenienced. |

A sequel is on it's way titled Appleseed: Ex Machina. It's been available in japan for 2 months now but it'll be hitting the north american Blu-Ray and HD-DVD market sometime in march. _________________ No trees were harmed in the making of this post.
