Well I'm not working now anyways so I may as well lay it out.
I suppose I should start on how I got to this concept. It all started with the "Pirates of the Caribbean" video game for the xbox and pc. I played it on pc and if I remember correctly so did Titan. The game is obviously a pirate game which puts you in control of a ship and its captain onshore. I wanted more, by which i mean i wanted to see pirates in a more modern ship like a battleship. Well i got my battleship vs battleship play in the 360 game "Battlestations Midway" which was not a pirate game. So here is my concept in mostly point form.
-Essentially a privateering game set between the 16th century until the modern era. I don't really have exact dates but it doesn't really matter.
-"Sandbox" style game with all the oceans as you playground with era specific missions/goals and an overall plot.(any ideas for a plot are welcome)
-Only a small bit of alternate history by "editing" out the Paris Declaration of 1856 which banned privateering.(just because that would ruin the point of the game)
-Historically accurate tech
-3rd person ship controls when in realtime
-1st or 3rd person controls for boarding and raids
-Time compressed map view for travelling long distances. Map will change as time goes on and new tech is developped
-Option to skip "the rest" of an age once all goals have been met, or to go forth and make a fortune.(increase game play time as opposed to just finish the storyline)
-Players have the ability to aquire multiple Letters of Marque playing nations against eachother.
-Crew morale and training will effect how you ship travels/handles/fights.
-A window accessable from map which indicates who is having wars with the number of ships (merchant and warships) each side has.
-Playable on consoles and pc.
That is what i for technicalish so far. Its pretty much your standard pirate game just with more goodies.
I have some ideas for missions and plots but i will wait till i get some feedback on this before i add them. _________________ Just remember your safest around the redneck zombies due to their lack of teeth! |

so now that everyone has had time to read this what do you guys think? I have no technical ability or skill when it comes to making games. I say my strengths would have to lie in spewing out ideas, small research and reaping rewards (justifiable or illgotten it don't matter). So if anyone knows anyone interested in developping a game that has skills that would be useful in making this game send them to this thread. _________________ Just remember your safest around the redneck zombies due to their lack of teeth! |

looks pretty good... but what about weather.... just have it random, or try and use a seasonal model? _________________ "If there were no God, it would be necessary to invent him." -- Voltaire

Sounds okay, but I was not really involved in the other concept either. As long as I can kill something/body I'm happy. |

So I was talking to a guy at work and he suggested giving this game an MMO ability. I was just wondering if anyone has an idea of how to make it work, evolving world and such. not that it really matters none of us have any game making ability or even know someone who does. _________________ Just remember your safest around the redneck zombies due to their lack of teeth! |

it probably all depends on what changes you want to allow players to be able to make in the world, but ultimately it wouldn't be hard to make it work in a presistant evironment. _________________ "If there were no God, it would be necessary to invent him." -- Voltaire
